  2. When recommending interns to US companies, the School of Business Office evaluates more than just academic performance. It comprehensively assesses students' academic achievements, the professional skills required for the position, academic performance, learning attitude, conduct, relationships with faculty and classmates, easygoing personality, reliability, maturity, integrity, sense of responsibility, self-discipline, leadership, communication skills, ability to work independently, and ability to work with others in a team.

  3. 6. You could be refused J1 visa under section 214(b) of INA (the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act), if you are NOT able to convince a consular officer that you will leave the U.S. after the internship program by sufficiently demonstrating that you have very strong ties to your home country or overseas, such as work, school, family, solid personal, professional, financial, or social connections to your home country / foreign country that compel you to return.

Ties are the various aspects of your life that bind you to your home country. Strong ties vary from country to country, city to city, and person to person, but examples include:

  • Your job;

  • Your home; and/or

  • Your relationships with family and friends.

While conducting visa interviews, consular officers look at each application individually and consider the applicant's circumstances, travel plans, financial resources, and ties outside of the United States that will ensure the applicant’s departure after a temporary visit.

7. When applying for the J1 visa, the U.S. consular officer will request that you set all your social media accounts (i.e., LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, etc.) to public.
